Sgt. Herman Robertus Rewerts

Herman Robertus Rewerts # 37032113 enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 23, 1941 and received tank mechanic training at Fort Knox. He was sent overseas on September 23, 1943 and landed in France on June 24, 1944.

He participated in the five campaigns of the 33rd Armored Regiment: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Under Colonel Hogan's command since Normandy, Herman also received orders to disable his tank and abandon it in the village of Marcouray on the evening of December 25, 1944.

He is photographed several times with his comrades-in-arms the following day, December 26, 1944, at Ringlet Farm in Soy. One month after turning 28, he was killed when his tank was hit by an enemy bazooka shot on April 14, 1945 in Köthen, Germany. These are probably the last photos of Herman alive. He is buried in plot J, row 20, grave 13, at the American cemetery in the Netherlands, at Margraten.
